Make Your Movie Now!
6 Weeks Starting March 21st
7:00 pm to 9:30 pm CST
Make Your Movie Now! (Online)
Make The Movie You’ve Always Wanted To Make!
This class is designed to give you the knowledge and the tools that you need to easily write, produce, and direct your very own short film using whatever resources you, the budding filmmaker, have at your disposal and to have a fun time doing it! (Even while practicing Social Distancing!)
I’ve done this class many times before but this time we’re making the class and the process even easier by focusing on using the film studio that you carry around with you in your pocket, your smartphone! The ultimate goal of this class is to finish a short film no matter what! And the class motto is “We want to finish this film so that the next one will be even better.”
This 6 week course will focus on script writing and development, the basics of film production and editing, and finding your directing style so that by the end of the course you will be set up to shoot and edit your very own short film script. Scripts will be written and developed during the first few weeks of the class with emphasis on writing for the materials and resources that you have available to you at this time. We keep it simple. We keep it fun!
– For ages 18 & Older
– This class is limited to 6 students
TOM BOOKER is a former college mascot who started studying improvisation in 1986 at The Second City Training Center in Chicago before studying with legendary improv guru Del Close at ImprovOlympic (iO) where he performed with the infamous house troupe, Blue Velveeta. He is also a founding member of Chicago’s Annoyance Theatre where, among other things, he performed in their Off-Broadway production of The Real Live Brady Bunch at the world famous Village Gate Theater and at the Westwood Playhouse in Los Angeles.
After moving to Los Angeles in 1991, Tom formed Theatre-A-Go-Go! with Laura Hall, the musical director from Whose Line Is It Anyway? He eventually started teaching improv and sketch writing at The Second City Training Center in Los Angeles. Tom also co-wrote and co-directed (with producing partner Jon Kean) the feature film Kill The Man starring Luke Wilson, which premiered at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival. Tom has appeared in several television shows, a few movies and nearly a hundred commercials.
From 2001 to 2007 Tom taught Improv Classes, Sketch Writing Classes and Commercia Audition Workshops at The Second City Training Center. In 2007, Tom Booker came to Austin to start an improv theater and school and Austin’s Institution Theater was born!
